At Dr. Moore DDS, we know that a healthy smile leads to a healthy patient.
Periodontal disease, or gum disease, can be a contributing factor to severe health issues. In mild cases it can cause discomfort but in more serious cases it can lead to tooth and even bone loss. If left untreated, it can affect overall health in adverse ways.
There are three stages of gum disease:
- Gingivitis: Causing tender and inflamed gums that are prone to bleeding
- Periodontitis: Causing the gums to recede and the likely hood for bacteria filled pockets
- Advanced Periodontitis: Gums and bones continue to be damaged and the teeth are at risk of being lost
Common symptoms of periodontal disease are red and swollen gums, bad breath, and receding gums. If you are experiencing any of these issues you could be at risk for gum disease.
