At Dr. Moore DDS, we use the latest tricks and treatments to minimize the pain and discomfort associated with TMJ/TMD!
When people experience problems with their jaw or the muscles that support it, they are said to have temporomandibular disorder—also known as TMD or TMJ. There are a number of reasons someone might experience TMD, but most commonly it’s related to head/neck injuries, teeth clenching, arthritis of the jaw joint, tooth/jaw misalignment, and even stress.
Symptoms of TMD/TMJ
- Severe pain and discomfort
- Neck pain or tension
- Trouble chewing
- Facial Swelling
- Clicking or grating sounds from the jaw joint
- Difficulty opening the mouth wide
TMD/TMJ Treatment & Solutions
When you visit our office, Dr. Moore will discuss your health history, visually examine your mouth, and take digital X-rays. This procedure helps him determine whether any dental problems–like an abscessed tooth or an uneven bite–might be causing your pain.
Then, he will make recommendations that will minimize your TMD/TMJ discomfort, making you feel like your old self again in no time. For instance, Dr. Moore might suggest dental work, a custom-fitted night guard, or some combination of those.
A dental night guard is often used in the treatment of TMD/TMJ because it repositions the jaw so that it rests comfortably while you’re sleeping. This allows for a pain-free and pleasant slumber. Far superior to the night guards you might find at your local drugstore, a custom-fitted night guard lasts longer and has a perfect fit, meaning it won’t worsen your symptoms.
