At Dr. Timothy Moore DDS we know that a healthy smile begins at the root of the tooth.
That is why we take pride in delivering quality root canal therapy. A root canal is needed when an infection occurs in the pulp of the tooth or between the gum and a tooth. The infection can arise from tooth decay, tooth trauma or gum disease.
Some common signs of an infection include:
- Tooth pain when biting or chewing
- Sensitivity when eating/drinking hot or cold food/drinks
- Swelling of the face
Why a Root Canal?
Inside the tooth is a nerve system known as the pulp. This is where the blood vessels and nerve endings are located. Root canal therapy addresses the root of the pain. Skillfully delivered care gives patients the following benefits:
- Save teeth from decay
- Alleviate sensitivities in teeth
- Prevent other teeth from shifting
- Pain free eating
- Reduction of chronic tooth pain
- Happy and healthy smile
What Happens During a Root Canal?
If you are recommended for a root canal, there is no reason to panic. Today’s methods ensure that the procedure can be as routine as getting a filling. Most treatments can be completed in just one or two visits.
To alleviate potential discomfort, Dr. Moore will use local anesthesia to numb the area around the infected tooth.
During the procedure itself, the subject tooth will be cleaned. Using state of the art tools, the infected pulp and nerve will gently be removed. The remaining structure will be cleaned of any bacteria and sealed with a composite filling or crown.
Are You In Pain?
While pain, sensitivity, and swelling are all signs that may indicate tooth infection, the only way to know for sure is to have an examination performed. Stop living in pain and let our team help give you the healthy smile you deserve.
