Flossing is the key to reaching hidden plaque between teeth and under the gumline. If done properly, it prevents cavities, gum disease, and even bad breath. Unfortunately, many people skip flossing on a regular basis – and even those few who do it might not be doing it effectively.
But don’t worry! Family dentist Dr. Timothy Moore has tips for flossing to help keep your teeth healthy and strong!
Best Flossing Practices:
-
- Use enough floss: Start with about 18 inches, winding most around your middle fingers.
- Hold it correctly: Pinch the floss tightly between your thumbs and forefingers.
- Be gentle: Guide the floss between teeth with a back-and-forth motion, not a snap.
- Curve around each tooth: Form a “C” shape and glide up and down along the tooth surface.
- Don’t skip the back teeth: Your molars need flossing love too!
